About Red Dodge Diary

RedDodgeDiary.com was created for the average person who wants to be able to work on and maintain their automobiles.

Certainly in times where money is tight, most of us would rather not have to shell out the $$$’s to a high-priced dealer or mechanic if it’s a job that we could easily do ourselves.

But most of us don’t know what those jobs are!

RedDodgeDiary.com should help you to identify which jobs you should be able to do yourself for pennies, and which ones you are better off outsourcing to your favorite mechanic.

Another concern of RedDodgeDiary.com is the quandry that most of us get into when we’re looking at buying a used car. Who amongst you haven’t thought about getting that older style Corvette or 280Z and being able to cruise around in that baby?  (Or a Sunbeam Alpine)

I know I have!

But one thing that stops most people from buying used cars is the fear of the unknown. How do we spot the lemons? All used cars have issues, but are they issues that are easily fixable, or do they need professional servicing?

Of course you could just ask the person selling the car… DON’T BE SILLY! They are trying to SELL YOU A CAR! Or, if you are buying from a private individual, they may not even KNOW what the potential expenses and issues may be.

RedDodgeDiary.com is here to help you through all of these issues. I hope to be able to explain and teach in a way that anyone feels they can learn from my experience. Through our forums, you can learn from the experiences of others, and maybe even do a little teaching yourself! :-)

In addition to the information and advice that you can get at RedDodgeDiary.com, we will also provide ebooks and articles on various topics of interest. Some of these will be for sale, and some will be free for members.

YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF YOUR CAR!

IT’S NOT IMPOSSIBLE!

About Paul

Paul at Texas Motor Speedway

PAUL AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

I served ten years in the U.S. Air Force specializing in electronics.

I have had a lifelong interest in how things work. Don’t even ask how many toasters I took apart as a child!  I made my first electromagnet with a large dry cell battery and wire wrapped around a nail when i was 7.

I grew up trading for minibikes, and finally moved on to automotive. I was blessed to be able to learn a lot from my and my friends’ vehicles, and I’ve loved working on cars for well over 40 years. I’d like to say that I did it only for the love of the automobile, but really it was because I’m mainly cheap and would rather do the work myself. And once you start doing this, some “professional” jobs start looking less professional.

Currently I hold a pilots license and aircraft mechanics license, love riding bicycles for long miles, and fixing and building things around the house. I now work for a major defense contractor as flight inspector on fighter aircraft.

Some of the cars that I have owned and worked on (because I’m cheap and would rather do the work myself… and mostly I enjoyed it) have been (in rough chronological order):

  1. 1954 VW beetle
  2. 1963 Sunbeam Alpine (owned three of these over the years)
  3. 1962 ford Fairlane
  4. 1971 Mazda R100, 1973 Rx-3
  5. 1971 Plymouth Fury II, ex highway patrol interceptor with 440 big block
  6. 1957 Chevrolet Station wagon
  7. 1963 Dodge Town Wagon 4×4, ex U.S. Forest Service Truck
  8. 1966 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck (two)
  9. 1972 Porsche 914
  10. 1988 GMC Safari mini van
  11. 1995 Dodge 1500 4×4
  12. 1997 GMC Jimmy
  13. 2001 Dodge 2500 diesel pickup
  14. 2007 Ford Sportrac, V8 option
  15. 1963 Ford Galaxie 500
  16. 1997 Dodge 2500 diesel pickup
